Aside from all the competitions and training, socials are an important part of the club. Kicking back and having some fun off the ballroom floor and onto the Rubix dancefloor is a great way to relax and get to know everyone! Socials range from nights out in town or on campus to sunny picnic by the lake, or movie nights. These are a great chance for the whole club to mix. Although it might feel daunting to join a new society, come to a BLDC social and you'll definitely have a great time! Read below for specific events in the year...
Social Dance Nights
Every Thursday we run a social dance night. There are no rules; the music goes on and the dancing starts. It's an open floor for practice, general dancing, chatting and getting to know everyone with some fun dances to learn. Members of the committee and other experienced club members will be on hand to give help if needed.
Social Dance Balls
Several times a year our professional teachers host charity balls. They are fun nights where you can dance with club members and other people taught by our teaches and members of the public, not to mention tuck in to a enjoyable american supper!
Team Surrey Colours Ball
Every year Surrey BLDC attends the Team Surrey Colours Ball, which celebrates all the achievements of each club within Team Surrey and features a series of awards for both teams and indivduals. It's at these nights that the individuals within Surrey BLDC who have done outstandingly well throughout the last few years receive their Colours Awards. The list of our past winners can be seen in our Hall of Fame. It's always a fantastic night and a great way to round off the sporting season.
Throughout the year we run a variety of fun and exciting workshops. Most of these are aimed at complete beginners, often introducing different dances outside the standard ten that we teach in class. You may find yourself dancing styles such as Rock and Roll, East Coast Swing, or Argentine Tango! We also collaborate with other societies to learn brand new skills, such as salsa or even break-dance.
